Now that I’ve written the book Chameleon Butterfly Dragonfly, readers tell me you have to figure out what this animal means or why this critter was in my dream. A common elemental archetype noticed by many readers is the Humingbird. Like the Dragonfly, when you see a humingbird it is more like a visit. here is what one reader and new friend Lynne shared with me:

From the paper company Papyrus: “Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying out hopes for love, joy and celebration. The hummingbird’s delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life’s sweetest creation.”

I recently met Lynne for coffee (you have to read how we met!) and we were chatting about the Humingbird. I said, I think the Humingbird is an invitation to connect with Divine Joy, the divine joy within you. And then she sent this little bit about it’s symbolism. More to come later on the Humingbird!

The Transparent Butterfly Deepens Our Understanding of the Butterfly Archetype.

Margaret Heath, who mysteriously popped into my life specially delivered from the Divine Feminine, sent me this information on the Transparent Butterfly: It comes from Central America and is found from Mexico to Panama. It is quite common in its zone, but it not easy to find because of its transparent wings, which is a natural camouflage mechanism

A butterfly with transparent wings is rare and beautiful. As delicate as finely blown glass, the presence of this rare tropical gem is used by rain forest ecologists as an indication of high habitat quality and its demise alerts them of ecological change. Rivaling the refined beauty of a stained glass window, the translucent wings of the Glasswing butterfly shimmer in the sunlight like polished panes of turquoise, orange, green, and red All things beautiful do not have to be full of color to be noticed: in life that which is unnoticed has the most power.

Here is my comment: One of the characteristics of the Butterfly archetype is that the color on the wings can be easily rubbed off symbolizing the misunderstanding of a Butterfly’s depth. A woman that has the Butterfly as an eminent archetype can be judged harshly due to her beauty and dramatic nature (Anna Nicole Smith, Marilyn Monroe) but do not be mistaken her true character is known only by those close to her and her power to inspire and influence lives well beyond her physical life such as in Elton John’s song, “Candle in the Wind.”

What I love most about authoring this book is watching how the Divine Feminine finds her way into people’s lives and having them share their experience. This book will truly connect you with the Divine Feminine and if you are ready to become fully expressed, it will find you.

The quiz from the book found two women, a mother and daughter, Lynne Cessante and Margaret Heath. Lynne discovered the quiz online through Women4Wellness. (the link to the quiz went out when I spoke at a women’s tea). Lynne passed the quiz on to her Mother in Michigan (where I was born!!). Margaret took the quiz, and shared it with her women’s group. Upon doing so, Margaret began to receive specific divine guidance to draw a picture for each woman and to write in symbolism messages for the women from the divine. She deeply touched the hearts of each woman and discovered a gift that she has.

When Lynne saw the drawings (Lynne lives in California) she contacted me and asked if I’d like to meet her Mother Margaret on her upcoming visit. It took me less than a second to say, “Yes!”. We had such fun sharing our stories and we laughed as I teased them about their “Michigan accents” (my son still thinks Michigan is a planet that I came from). I was so happy the Divine Feminine put me in touch with my “home girls” and newly found soul sisters.

This is what I’m talkin’ about! This is the way the Divine Feminine works. She finds you and brings forth such incredible wisdom and beauty it takes your breath away. Recently, my connection with the elemental world has been expanding. It began with a tree full of birds just outside my deck where I journal in the morning. I had never really liked birds in the past, perhaps from seeing Hitchcock’s movie “The Birds” at too tender of an age? Especially the raven (more below). As I began to notice more and more birds collect in this tree, I began to watch and listen to them until one day this overwhelming feeling of joy came over me. These birds had a special gift for me and I finally woke up to receive it. The raven has also been dancing into my awareness with more of a luring energy. I would see a raven on the way back from the beach, in parking lots, and in odd places. I finally stopped to listen when yesterday I was on my way to an event at Yoga Del Mar to celebrate my yoga instructors 10 year anniversary. I was sitting at a traffic light with the convertible top down when all of a sudden through the noise of the situation, I hear a (ka, ka, ka). As I look up I see the now familiar raven. This time I knew there was a message. I looked up the symbolism today and found this site with a thorough description of its meaning.

This part of her translation stood out to me: the Raven is the Native American bearer of magic, and a harbinger of messages from the cosmos.  Messages that are beyond space and time are nestled in the midnight wings of the Raven and come to only those within the tribe who are worthy of the knowledge.

When interpreting symbolism, it’s important to read from the experts opinions and listen to your intuition. My first reaction to the raven was death of someone in my life. So needless to say, it scared me. Then after this key encounter in my car, I was guided to look further. I believe the raven is telling me not to run from my dark side but to be with it and allow a new experience of life to unfold. There is a death happening within me and at times the stillness is unsettling. Yet I know it giving birth to an entirely new understanding and view of myself and the world as well as new gifts to be shared with others. These are times of a dying off for all of us. May you also listen to the raven and trust the process of life and evolution that is occurring within you and all around you.

What if the “secret” to having everything you want is to just be yourself? One of our greatest challenges is fulfilling all the roles we play and answering to the various desires we have from love to success and happiness. Over the years of guiding people with Life Cultivation, I’ve realized that the most simple way to create inner and outer fulfillment at the same time is to discover and express your true self. When it came time to write my first book, I was going to write about Life Cultivation but it seemed overwhelming at the time (my blog shares the details!)

As I relaxed into the idea of writing my book, Chameleon Butterfly Dragonfly came to me. (watch my author’s intro for details). At first I didn’t see the connection between the archetypes and discovering your true self and then it became very clear. It continues to amaze me how accurate the quiz in the book is and how accurately these archetypes capture the essence of your true self. Discovering whether you are a Chameleon, Butterfly, or Dragonfly is liberating. Then reading about the famous Chameleons, Butterflies, and Dragonflies inspires you to come forth and express your true self boldy, completely, and uniquely.

You each have all three archetypes within you (Chamelon is your mind, Butterfly is your body and Dragonfly is your spirit) but ultimately you will emerge aligned with one or a combination of two archetypes as you get closer and closer to full self-expression. Why bother discovering your “true” self? Living as an expression of your true self is the “secret”. Something profound happens when you discover your true self. You gain clarity and connection deep within. From this place, creating your life is a matter of expressing who you are and expressing who you are is what fulfills your desires. This way of living moves you beyond intermittent happiness to lasting fulfillment.

Several readers have reported mysterious visits from chameleons, butterflies or dragonflies upon ordering the book or after receiving it. Laurie reported an awake dream where butterfly ferries danced about her. Tami shared that after receiving the book, a dragonfly perched itself on her wall for days. Gail discovered she was a butterfly and realized it was no coincidence that her husband collected butterflies and that she had thousands of them in her home.

I am constantly amazed at how I will see a butterfly just when I am thinking about expressing myself or needing to take care of my body. Or a chameleon/lizard when I’m getting organized and making a move in my career. And always the dragonfly as I’m receiving messages about my work and next step on my path.
